Tech Specs
The Deep Sea Biome has interesting specs. The continental shelf is the underwater extent of each continental plate. This shelf can extend from barely nothing to several hundred miles. The average length for the self to be is about 40 miles. The Deep Sea Biome occurs just past the end of the shelf, starting at about 600 feet to ending at a whopping 12,000 feet deep. The sea floor of this biome mirrors that of land, although on a much larger scale. The Deep Sea Biome is the largest biome in the world because it takes up 90% of the entire ocean. Therefore, this biome take up about 63.9% of the entire world. The seafloor is made up of sand and rock, and the geographical features that occur there include hot springs, which are vents in the ground that let out extremely hot water with temperatures as high as 1000˚C, and mountain ranges. The largest mountain range is at the bottom of the ocean, measuring over 35,000 miles from North to South. The average temperature down at the bottom of the ocean is 28˚ F (-2.2˚ C). This means that the water temperatures are below freezing in this biome. The salinity levels are 34.69% in the Pacific, and 35% in the Atlantic.
